Muchos estudios, directa o indirectamente, han tratado de recuperar los orígenes del gaitanismo y los elemento que más contribuyeron a su desarrollo. Sobre esta línea, el artÍculo propone presentar una reflexión sobre la influencia que el mussolinismo, como mística del jefe, tuvo en la formacion del gaitanismo, dando cuenta del entorno político, cultural y social que Jorge Elíecer Gaitán observó durante su viaje a la italia de Benito Mussolini, en la segunda mitad de los años veinte, y que luego influyó en su experiencia política/Many studies, directly or indirectly, have tried to recover the origins of gaitanismo and the elements that contributed to its development. The paper presents a refl ection on the infl uence that mussolinism, as the cult of the leader, had in the formation of gaitanism and underlines the political, cultural and social environment that Jorge Eliécer Gaitan observed during his trip to Benito Mussolini's Italy in the second half of the Twenties.
